Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead is the original Play’n GO video slot released on 14 January 2016. Its central feature is a randomly selected expanding symbol during free spins. The game title matters: later “Book” titles and variants should not be treated as having identical rules.
How the free-spin feature works
According to Play’n GO’s official game page, three scatter symbols unlock ten free spins. Before the sequence begins, an ordinary symbol is randomly chosen as the special expanding symbol for that sequence.
After ordinary wins are evaluated, the selected symbol can fill the three positions on its reel where expansion would award an additional qualifying prize. Expanded symbols do not need to be on neighbouring reels to produce that special win. A further three or more scatters during the feature award ten additional free spins.
This is more precise than saying the chosen symbol always expands as soon as it appears. The qualifying conditions and active lines in the game’s rules still matter.
Total stake and line stake can be different
A paytable may express an award in coins, line stakes or total stakes. Read the unit before converting a multiplier to pounds. If an illustrative setup uses ten active lines at 5p per line, the total stake is 50p. A prize described as 100 times one 5p line stake is £5, not £50.
That arithmetic example is not a statement of the available settings at a particular casino. The interface and rules establish what can be changed. If line selection is available, changing it can affect both cost and qualifying wins. “Always use every line” is not a universal money-saving strategy.
Why this guide does not promise one RTP everywhere
The game’s information panel is the relevant source for the configuration actually offered. A review quoting a familiar percentage does not establish the version loaded in your account. Record the provider, exact title and stated return before comparing two versions.
RTP is a theoretical average over extensive play, not a payout guarantee for a deposit. The Gambling Commission explains why a displayed percentage should not be expected in each playing session. “High volatility” describes variation in outcomes; it does not tell you when a large result will arrive.
In a simplified example, changing theoretical RTP from 96% to 94% changes the modelled house edge from 4% to 6%. On £500 of aggregate stakes, the corresponding average mathematical losses are £20 and £30. Your actual result can be far from either number, including loss of the full amount available to gamble.
There is no spin count that guarantees the book
Neither recent losing spins nor a run of scattered symbols establishes that a free-spin feature is due. A method built around waiting, increasing stakes or changing casinos has no demonstrated predictive basis here. Claims that a small stake buys “the time the maths needs” encourage false confidence.
Read the help screen before assuming there is a feature-purchase option. This guide does not import a bonus buy from a related game into the original Book of Dead, and a paid shortcut would still be a stake at risk.
